PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NE) South Platte Flood

Summary: Colorado South Platte Basin flood waters have now entered the Platte River in Nebraska.

Update on flooding for Nebraska, September 22, 2013

Western Nebraska (South Platte and Platte River Basin)

South Platte flood waters have entered the Platte River. The flood crested at 14.2ft at South Platte at North Platte today and is now on the Platte mainstem.

One NEWSC crew in the field doing followup measurements at South Platte at Roscoe and assisting the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources at some of their downstream sites.

One USGS staffer is been monitoring flows at Roscoe, NE which appears to be slowly rising again. The USGS will be providing discharge measurement assistance to the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources at the Platte River at Maxwell and Brady gages Platte River and flood hardening two gages on the Platte River at Cottonwood Ranch.

NEWSC put together a Water Quality Flood Response Plan for the Office of Water Quality and is coordinating with Colorado.

NEWSC Director, Bob Swanson is meeting daily with the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency Emergency Operations Center Planning Committee.

A News release is not planned. The field crews have met with both television and newspaper media. The Friday of the Lincoln Journal Star feature interviews with John Miller and Robert Swanson as well as our photos.
