Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2013 17:12:54 EDT

Summary: Major flood event in the South Platte River Basin in Colorado.

This is the last project alert from the USGS Colorado Water Science Center (CWSC) concerning the recent major flooding event in the South Platte River Basin in Colorado. Flooding began late September 11 and today only one streamgage in Colorado remains above a National Weather Service Flood Stage. The South Platte River near Julesburg, located at the Colorado-Nebraska State line, is forecasted to remain above flood stage until tomorrow.

Since September 12, the CWSC has had personnel in the field each day measuring flood flows and making emergency repairs to damaged gages. Starting September 23, the USGS will have 7 teams out surveying high water marks at selected stream locations in order to determine peak flow values for the event.
