PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (HI) Tropical storm Flossie

Summary: There was no significant rainfall or flooding in the Hawaiian Islands resulting from tropical storm Flossie

Tropical storm Flossie weakened and broke apart as it reached the Big Island yesterday morning. Maui and Molokai received the most rainfall, approximately 4 inches, which was not enough to generate significant streamflow peaks.

No gages were damaged or destroyed. No peaks were large enough to warrant flagging for indirect measurements.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all islands through late tonight because of lingering moisture and weak trade winds. Field crews are ready to deploy should the need arise.

The USGS did answer stakeholders questions concerning flood alerts. We will be meeting with the State of Hawaii Civil Defense Agency later this week to discuss the flood alert gage network.
