PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (SD) Project alert - SD WSC high flows after heavy precipitation and destructive storms June 21-22

Summary: Severe weather across Eastern South Dakota caused extensive damage and has resulted in some high flows across the eastern portion of SD.

Location: Severe thunderstorms moved across North-eastern and Eastern South Dakota late June 21 and early June 22, resulting in localized heavy rainfall, hail, and damaging winds.

Information: Currently a few sites in the James River basin are above flood stage and will likely remain above flood stage for most of the week. Peaks from this storm will likely fall into the 10 percent AEP or less. The storm did result in one death when winds blew one home over.

No new peaks of record.
No realtime gages damaged or destroyed.

We currently have 4 crew out with measurements focussed on CSG gages across the impacted area. Additional discharge measurements will be made on the James River later this week as flows begin to peak.

No special measruements. Flagged high-water marks unknown at this time.
