PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NJ) USGS NJWSC Responds to Tropical Storm Andrea

Summary: Tropical Storm Andrea brings widespread rain to New Jersey (June 7, 2013)

The National Weather Service (NWS) has reported over 1.5 inches of rain in the past 24 hours in the Delaware, Raritan, and Passiac River basins. The NWS indicates another 2-3 inches are possible in the next 48 hours. The NWS MARFC is forecasting minor to moderate flooding in the Raritan, Passaic, and Lower Delaware River basins. The entire state is currently under a Flood Watch. The timing of the river flooding is this evening through Saturday. All river flooding is expected to be over by the end of the weekend.

USGS crews have been dispatched in response to this event. Three crews (a total of 6 staff members) from the New Jersey Water Science Center are out today making discharge measurements and ensuring that streamgages and raingages are functioning properly.
