USGS Crews from the North Carolina Water Science Center respond to
flooding from Tropical Storm Andrea (June 7, 2013).
Tropical Storm Andrea brings widespread rain to North Carolina.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has reported that many areas in
central North Carolina have received 1 to 2 inches of rain overnight
with a few locations reporting over 4 inches. The NWS indicates that
another couple of inches are possible and isolated locations could
see rainfall totals of around six inches. A Flash Flood Watch remains
in effect for all of central NC through this afternoon and Flood Warnings have been issued for locations along the Neuse and Cape Fear Rivers in North Carolina.
USGS crews have been dispatched in response to this event. Eight
crews (a total of 13 staff members) from the Raleigh and Charlotte
Field Offices of the North Carolina Water Science Center are out
today making discharge measurements and ensuring that streamgages
and raingages are functioning properly.
