PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NE) Nebraska -- Flood Update

Summary: Heavy precipitation results in flooding in southeastern Nebraska.

Event Information:
Flash flood watches remain in effect for eastern Nebraska after receiving rainfall ranging upwards of 8 inches in the past week (http://water.weather.gov/precip/). Two streamgages were above flood stage. NWS forecasts predict up to two additional inches of rain over the next two days. Numerous tornados and water over roads have been reported in the past couple of days.

High flows are being measured by five crews (eight staff members) to verify shifts following the extreme drought that has plagued this region during the past year. These same crews are repairing four pressure lines damaged by high-water debris. A 100-pound Columbus weight and Price AA meter were lost due to heavy debris flows at one site. No stage-discharge ratings have needed extension. This information is being communicated to the NWS.
