Summary: Severe flooding occurred in San Antonio, Texas, on May 25-26, 2013.

Severe flooding occurred in San Antonio, Texas, on May 25-26, 2013. Rainfall amounts exceeded 13 inches north of downtown San Antonio. Three people drowned as a result of this storm. USGS personnel made flood measurements at 10 streamflow-gaging stations during the flood, and recovered flood marks to verify recorded peak stages.

A record peak gage height (34.21 ft) was set at USGS station 08178565 San Antonio River at Loop 410 at San Antonio, 1.64 ft higher than the previous maximum for the period 1987-2012. Because the channel was recently rectified, a slope-area survey will be used to determine the peak discharge.

USGS station 08178800 Salado Creek at Loop 13, San Antonio, TX, recorded a peak discharge of 25.800 cubic feet per second, corresponding to an annual exceedence probability of 0.017 (about a 60-year flood). Only one larger flood (in October 1998) has been recorded at this site since the station was established in 1960.
