Summary: Minor flooding in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Minor flooding is occurring on several streams in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. USGS sites in the NWS minor flooding category include Brule River near Commonwealth (WI), Menominee River near Florence, and Sturgeon River near Alston.

Two two-man crews comprise the field effort today. The Escanaba Field Office personnel, under the direction of Neal Craig, has done a fantastic job of making streamflow measurements during this event, under some difficult circumstances. They have made the highest measurements ever at several long-term sites and have measured high flows at nearly every streamgage in the Upper Peninsula that can be reached this week. The last time flows of this magnitude occurred in the U.P. was April 2002! Four back country sites, including one on Isle Royale, are still currently unreachable.

No personnel are currently scheduled to be in the field over the weekend.
