Date: Wed, 01 May 2013 15:37:36 EDT

Summary: Minor flooding is occurring in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan

Event Information:
Minor flooding is occurring on several streams in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. USGS sites in the NWS minor flooding category include South Branch Ontonagon at Ewen, Black River near Bessemer, Trap Rock River near Lake Linden, Paint River near Alpha, Brule River near Commonwealth (WI), and Sturgeon River near Alston. Significant snowmelt has been occurring in most areas and temperatures today ranged from the 40's in the west to 60's in the east. Temperatures for the remainder of the week are expected to fall into the 30's and 40's, however.

Water Watch this morning was showing four stations above flood stage and over a dozen at or above the 99th percentile. No period of record flows are currently expected.

Field staff dispatched are comprised of three single-man crews, and a three-man crew measuring the manistique River near Manistique, which requires an ADCP boat crew and a wading crew to measure flows through the surrounding woods.
