Summary: Minor flooding is impacting streams in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Minor flooding is occurring on several streams in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. USGS sites in the NWS minor flooding category include South Branch Ontonagon at Ewen, Black River near Bessemer, Trap Rock River near Lake Linden, and Sturgeon River near Alston. Significant snowmelt is occurring in most areas and temperatures are supposed to be around 70 degrees today. Temperatures for the remainder of the week are expected to fall into the 30's and 40's, however.
Water Watch is showing two stations above flood stage and 11 at or above the 99th percentile. No period of record flows are currently expected. Washington Creek near Windigo on Isle Royale is at a needed measurement level but unreachable currently as NFS floatplanes cannot yet land due to ice conditions in Washington Harbor.
Field staff dispatched are comprised of three two-man crews, although two of those crews will be splitting up later this morning. One crew is currently taking a water-quality sample at the Ontonagon River nr Rockland, which is about 25,000 ft3/s.
