PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IN) Indiana Drought Update

Summary: Indiana is still experiencing a range of drought conditions across the state but these may ease with the ruminants of Hurricane Isaac forecast to arrive over the weekend.

Drought Conditions: The U.S. Drought Monitor reports 97% of Indiana experiencing at least moderate drought conditions; 64% in severe drought; 39% in extreme drought; and 11% in exceptional drought.

Streamgages: For the week of August 26, below normal streamflow continues at 51% of gages across the state with 30% of the sites registering daily flows below the 10th percentile. Gage maintenance continues where needed to clean out wells, extend orifice lines, are install alternate stage sensors as needed.

Groundwater: Currently, below normal groundwater levels are being observed at 21% of gages across the state.

Rainfall forecasts for the state call for up to 8" of cumulative rainfall through Monday morning due to the remnants of Isaac. 2 crews will be standing by over the weekend to collect water quality and discharge measurements where localized flooding may occur.
