WATER RESOURCES DIVISION MEMORANDUM NO. 99.20

Subject: District Chief Vacancies

Over the past several years, the Water Resources Division (WRD) has been
quite successful in attracting extremely competent candidates for many
of our more senior positions from non-traditional recruitment sources.
Even among the ranks of our district chiefs, we find several outstanding
examples of quality individuals with little or no previous WRD
experience.

The Division's Human Resources Management Committee recently recommended
that all future district chief vacancies be advertised as
multidiscipline positions in the -1301 physical science, -401 biologist,
and -1315 hydrologist series, to provide more obvious career
opportunities with the Division for science managers from other
disciplines. I enthusiastically endorse the Committee's recommendation,
and encourage each of you to make your colleagues in our sister
divisions and other-Federal agencies, State and local government
officials, and friends in the private sector aware of future
opportunities for employment with the Water Resources Division.

                                (signed)
                                Robert M. Hirsch
                                Chief Hydrologist

Distribution: A, B, S, FO, PO
