Subject:        PERSONNEL--Current Research Advisers and Assistant Research
                Advisers in the National Research Program

Water Resources Division Memorandum No. 81.82 outlined the National
Research Program's Research Adviser system.  Research Advisers (RAs) and
Assistant Research Advisers (ARAs) serve on a rotational basis.  The
purpose of this memorandum is to announce the RAs and ARAs for the current
disciplines.

o       Ecology:  Interaction with living material and hydrology.

        Julio L Betancourt (RA) Tucson, AZ      (Continuing)

o       Geomorphology and Sediment Transport:  Erosion, transport, and
        deposition of particulate material.

        Edmund D. Andrews       Boulder, CO     (New)

o       Ground-Water Hydrology:  Ground-water physics, flow through the
        unsaturated zone, transport within the unsaturated and saturated zones,
        and hydrogeology.

        Christopher E. Neuzil (RA)      Reston, VA      (Continuing)
        Steven G. Ingebritsen (ARA)     Menlo Park, CA  (Continuing)

o       Ground-Water Chemistry:  Hydrogeologic processes, chemical reactions,
        and distribution of organic and inorganic species.

I wish to express my thanks to outgoing Research Advisers, J. Dungan Smith
(Geomorphology and Sediment Transport), Arthur E. White (Ground-Water
Chemistry), Kenneth E. Bencala (Surface-Water Hydrology), and Michael M.
Reddy (Surface-Water Chemistry).  In a departure from previous years, there
will be a transition period effective immediately until June 1, 1997.
During this transition period, the outgoing Research Advisers will share
some of the duties with the new Research Advisers.

Another change from previous years is that the two smallest disciplines,
Geomorphology and Sediment Transport and Surface-Water Hydrology, will be
combined for purpose of Research Grade Evaluation (RGE) panels.  They will,
however, remain separate and distinct disciplines.
