MEETINGS--Second Announcement for the Fifth Federal Interagency Sedimentation Conference In Reply Refer To: WGS-Mail Stop 415 July 19, 1990 OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 90.14 Subject: MEETINGS--Second Announcement for the Fifth Federal Interagency Sedimentation Conference Enclosed are ten copies of the subject announcement. The fifth Federal Interagency Sediment Conference will be held March 18-21, 1991, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Federal Interagency Sedimentation Conferences (FISC) were held in 1947, 1963, 1976, and 1986. As a continuation of these highly successful conferences, the Fifth FISC will provide federal and non-federal scientists and managers from various disciplines the opportunity to discuss recent accomplishments and progress in research and on technical developments in many areas of sedimentation (see announcement for subjects). About 200 papers incorporating results of recent research and technology and/or applications are planned for presentation. The Water Resources Division (WRD) will be presenting over 30 papers and the Sedimentation Project at St. Anthony Falls and the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility are preparing exhibits for the Conference. The Fifth FISC will be different from the first four in two ways: 1) About 25 percent of the papers will be from the non-federal sector; in the past all papers were from Federal Agencies or their contractors; and 2) A commercial exhibit hall is planned where vendors can exhibit the latest in surface water and sediment data collection and analysis equipment and software. There will be a significant number of papers that will deal directly with some major problems being addressed by the WRD including non-point source pollution, aquatic ecology and trend assessment. Districts are encouraged to participate in the conference. It would be appreciated if Districts would distribute copies of the enclosed announcement to interested parties and to appropriate non-federal cooperators. Additional copies of the announcement may be obtained from the Office of Surface Water. Charles W. Boning Chief, Office of Surface Water Enclosures WRD DISTRIBUTION: FO-LS
