Issue Paper on Solid Phase Data in the Water Resources Division In Reply Refer To: August l2, l986 WGS-Mail Stop 4l2 OFFICE OF WATER QUALITY TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 86.08 Subject: Issue Paper on Solid Phase Data in the Water Resources Division The enclosed issue paper on solid-phase data in the Water Resources Division is a revision of a draft prepared one year ago, and discussed and critiqued by several WRD geochemists. The Office of Water Quality is distributing this paper now in order to give wider exposure to these ideas and to get responses from you, pro and con, to its many points. The Surface Water Toxics Program has focused new attention on the solid phase, but the Regional Aquifer-System Analysis program and many individual projects over the years have also demonstrated the utility of data on the solid phase to improve our understanding of hydrologic processes. Because the Division's access to solid- phase data is limited at best, the arguments and proposals in this paper require careful consideration. Please send your comments and suggestions on the ideas expressed in this paper to R. Schoen at Mail Stop 4l2, (RSCHOEN@QVARSA) by September 30 so that we can consider them in program planning.
