COMMITTEES--Task Group on Sediment Chemistry In Reply Refer To: November 2, 1983 EGS-Mail Stop 412 QUALITY OF WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 84.03 Su#ject: COMMITTEES--Task Group on Sediment Chemistry A Task Group on Sediment Chemistry has been formed for the purpose of advising the Quality of Water Branch on those technical matters that relate to the sampling, analysis, and interpretation of data on chemical constituents associated with sediment. Many chemicals of current concern, such as synthetic organics and heavy metals, tend to associate dominantly with the sediment rather than the water. Water- quality investigations should include an evaluation of sediment chemistry, where appropriate, to assure that all important chemicals have been identified and characterized. Representation on the task group comes from the Districts, Regions, Central Laboratories, and four research disciplines. The task group is chaired by Bob Schoen of the Quality of Water Branch. A synopsis of the minutes of the first meeting of the task group is attached. Minutes of subsequent meetings will be transmitted in the same manner for your information. R. J.
