PUBLICATIONS--Inclusion of NASQAN Pesticide Subnetwork Data in 1981 Water Year Annual Water-Resources Data Reports In Reply Refer To: March 17, 1982 EGS-Mail Stop 412 QUALITY OF WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 82.09 Subject: PUBLICATIONS--Inclusion of NASQAN Pesticide Subnetwork Data in 1981 Water Year Annual Water- Resources Data Reports We have recently learned that, because of budget constraints, the EPA Toxicant Analysis Center (TAC) in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, was unable to analyze samples stored there which were collected by USGS personnel as part of the USGS/EPA Pesticide Monitoring Program (NASQAN Pesticide Subnetwork). Because of the excessive storage time of the samples and their condition of storage, we believe that erroneous data might be obtained if the samples were analyzed. We have therefore requested that EPA discard the samples. The table below lists the samples that are being discarded. Water-phase samples Bottom-material samples half of November 1980 set all of May 1980 set all of February 1981 set all of November 1980 set all of May 1981 set all of May 1981 set The only exceptions to the above table are selected bottom- material samples collected in Montana in November 1980 and May 1981 which will be forwarded to the Montana District at their request. The August 1981 sampling for water-phase samples was cancelled, so there are no samples for that period. Approximately half of the November 1980 water-phase samples were analyzed. The results of those analyses were forwarded to the Quality of Water Branch and entered into WATSTORE. Because all of the analyses performed by the TAC have been entered into WATSTORE, Districts should not wait any further for 1981 Water Year NASQAN Pesticide Subnetwork data to be included in their 1981 Water Year Annual Water-Resources Data Reports. Please contact Jim Schornick or Mike Yurewicz of the Quality of Water Branch (FTS 928-6834) if there are any questions about the above. Effective October 1, 1982, as stated in Quality of Water Branch Technical Memorandum 82.03, the Geological Survey took over the responsibility for both sample collection and sample analysis for the NASQAN Pesticide Subnetwork.
