WATER QUALITY--Analytical Methods: "Determination of biochemical-oxygen-demand parameters," by M.E. Jennings and D P. Bauer June 8, 1976 QUALITY OF WATER BRANCH TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 76.19 Subject: WATER QUALITY--Analytical Methods: "Determination of biochemical-oxygen-demand parameters," by M.E. Jennings and D P. Bauer Attached is a copy of a user's manual, with computer program documentation, for calculation of biochemical-oxygen-demand (BOD) parameters from the results of laboratory determinations of dissolved oxygen. The program, by Marshall E. Jennings and Daniel P. Bauer, permits the calculation of both 5-day BOD and ultimate BOD if sufficient data are available, as well as two parameters of the first-order kinetic model for BOD. The program offers several options, and should be especially useful when a large volume of BOD data is available. The section of the report on "Limitations of BOD Analysis" should be noted carefully. Additional copies of the manual are available from Marshall Jennings at Gulf Coast Hydroscience Center. The authors and the Quality of Water Branch would appreciate any comments that program users may have. R. J.
