OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 96.01
Subject: Distribution of Open-File Report 95-701, Quality Assurance
Plan for Discharge Measurements Using Broadband Acoustic
Doppler Current Profilers by Stephen W. Lipscomb
The purpose of this memorandum is to announce, and to distribute a lim
ited number of copies of U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 95-
701, Quality Assurance Plan for Discharge Measurements Using Broadband
Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers by Stephen W. Lipscomb.
The recent introduction of the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP)
as an instrument for measuring velocities and discharge in the riverine
and estuarine environment promises to revolutionize the way the U.S.
Geological Survey collects these data. The ADCP and associated soft
ware, however, comprise a complex system and should only be used by
qualified personnel. Standard quality-assurance procedures, as provided
in this plan, should be rigorously followed to ensure that the quality
of data collected is commensurate with standards the Water Resources
Division has set for measurement of velocities and discharge.
Additional copies of this plan may be obtained by telephoning the Office
of Surface Water at (703)648-5301 or by e-mail request to jrose@mailr
vares.er.usgs.gov.
