Test Results for the Deca (Cone) Splitter In Reply Refer To: January 28, 1993 Mail Stop 415 OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 93.10 Subject: Test Results for the Deca (Cone) Splitter The deca (cone) splitter was authorized for use in the Water Resources Division by Office of Water Quality (OWQ) Technical Memorandum No. 80.17. That memorandum included some test data based on clear water. The Branch of Quality Assurance recently conducted some additional tests including the use of sediment and summarized all results to date. A copy of the test results and analysis are attached for your information. The results indicate that the water and sediment splits usually are of acceptable accuracy but that some splitters may have individual ports that deliver more or less than the desired amount of material. The data reaffirm the need for involved technical personnel to familiarize themselves with the individual instrument by running a series of tests to determine any bias that can result from instrument imperfection or operator procedures. The test procedures that should be followed in these tests are outlined in OWQ Technical Memorandum No.J80.17. The Office of Surface Water strongly encourages field tests of deca splitters used in surface-water projects. Charles. W.
