OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM 93.04

Subject:  Correction to Office of Surface Water Technical
          Memorandum No. 93.01

The subject technical memorandum was a summary of documentation
describing instrumentation and field methods for collecting
sediment data.  An attachment to the subject memorandum commented
on "Guidelines for the Collection, Treatment, and Analysis of
Water Samples, U.S. Geological Survey, Western Region, Field
Manual."  It might be implied from these comments that the
1/8-inch nozzle is recommended for use with the DH-81 and D-77
sediment samplers.

The Office of Surface Water strongly discourages the use of an
1/8-inch nozzle with these samplers because of its generally
poor hydraulic performance and its tendency to clog.
