OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 92.01

Subject: PUBLICATIONS--Transmittal of two papers on bubble
                        gage errors

The purpose of this memorandum is to transmit the following
two papers on bubble gage errors:

"Bubble gage registration errors caused by gas column
density," by Winchell Smith, to appear in the U.S. Geological
Survey Water-Supply Paper 2340, Selected Papers in the
Hydrologic Sciences, edited by Seymour Subitsky, in press,
1991.

and

"Temperature sensitivity of mercury-manometer bubble gages,"
by W. H. Kirby, U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources
Investigations Report 91-4038, 19 p.

Please note that the temperature-sensitivity report requires
changes on page 2 as noted in the attached correction sheet.

These papers present detailed derivations and computations
that supplement information about gas-weight and temperature
errors that was presented in Office of Surface Water
Technical Memorandum 91.09 (July 30, 1991). Please bring
these papers to the attention of personnel in your office who
have a need to understand technical details of bubble gage
accuracy.
