OFFICE OF SURFACE WATER TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM NO. 00.01
Subject: Availability of Y2K compliant versions of Branch and TDDS
software packages
This memorandum announces the availability of Branch4.4 and TDDS6.1
software packages for distribution within the U.S. Geological Survey.
These packages contain changes to earlier versions to address problems
related to Y2K and a TDDS problem with retrieving data from multiple data
sets.
The attached summary provides a description of changes in the input file
formats and specific details on the revisions made to Branch, TDDS, and
the associated library package. Please note that all graphics output has
been disabled in Branch4.4 and TDDS6.1.
The TDDS problem with retrieving data from multiple data sets resulted in
data being incorrectly retrieved from the TDDS database. This error was
insidious because BRANCH failed to detect the error and report it in the
output. This affects both the TDDS and Branch programs. All Branch
simulations that used a TDDS database should be rechecked to verify that
the correct time-series data was retrieved and used. See the attached
summary for specific details.
The new versions are not currently available from the USGS/WRD software
web site (HASS). Executables for Branch4.4 and TDDS6.1 are available by
anonymous ftp at qmsbs2.er.usgs.gov in directory /var/ftp/pub/branch as
program files "branch" and "tdds" for the Sun operating system, and
"branch.exe" and "tdds.exe" for the NT4.0 operating system. Questions and
source code requests regarding these versions of Branch, TDDS, and the
associated library package (LIBUTL), should be made by email to
jfulford@usgs.gov.
