Subject: Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students with
Disabilities

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) will again participate in the
annual Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) for College Students with
Disabilities. The WRP will be recruiting approximately 1,500 students at
over 150 colleges and universities across the U.S. this year.

The WRP offers employers job candidates who have been pre-screened through
face-to-face interviews. Trained recruiters from Federal agencies
conduct personal interviews with interested students on college and
university campuses. Student information is compiled in a database that is
provided to all participating agencies. This program offers employers
access to candidates across the nation, by state or by school. It gives
the flexibility of hiring for summer internships, temporary, or permanent
positions, and provides a method to evaluate summer interns for permanent
staffing needs. Potential employers can get information about each
applicant's qualifications from the database.

Summer interns come from a wide variety of academic backgrounds, including
science, computers, engineering, communication, business and
administrative support. They can undertake special projects for an office
that have been postponed due to the lack of time or resources. They can
assist permanent staff with key projects, and share their specialized
knowledge and innovative technical skills. The interns can assume staff
responsibilities to substitute for permanent staff during their field
work, vacation or leave of absence.

Student referrals will be provided to the USGS on March 14, 2001.
Jeffrey Dallos, the USGS National Disability Program Manager, will assist
with the screening of students according to the tasks and requirements of
the different offices interested in hiring a student. He will also make
recommendations of students to be interviewed. Mr. Dallos can assist
managers with making offers to the selected students. He can also help
ensure the students will be provided appropriate accommodation services
and assistive technology at no cost to the hiring office.

If you are interested in hiring a summer intern through the WRP, please
fill out the attached request form and fax it to Mr. Dallos at
703-648-4445. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to
contact him via e-mail at jdallos@usgs.gov.
