Subject: PROGRAMS AND PLANS - Federal CBR surface-water, sediment, and
precipitation - FY 2001 proposed allocations

The purpose of this email is to provide information on fiscal year (FY)
2001 proposed allocations for the Federal Collection of Basic Records
(CBR) surface water, sediment, and precipitation stations. Both the House
and Senate marks of the Interior FY 2001 appropriation bill have an
increase for real-time hazards. We plan on using $250,000 from the
real-time hazards initiative to provide a cost-of-living increase for
existing CBR stations. For planning purposes, please use a 5.6 percent
increase for all surface water, sediment, and precipitation stations that
are currently funded through the CBR program (Tables 1-6 in AIS). The
only exception are the few surface water stations that are partially
supported by the NASQAN II program. Funding for these stations in FY 2001
will be determined by the NASQAN program.

You will have the discretion of distributing the funds among stations to
best meet your overall program objectives, but please consider the
priority of stations used by the National Weather Service for flood
forecasting and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood-control
operations.

The actual allocations will not be made until our FY2001 budget is passed
by Congress. If you have any questions about the CBR program, please
contact me, Tom Yorke (thyorke@usgs.gov) or Jim Kolva (jrkolva@usgs.gov).
