 Subject:  MEETINGS-Minutes of March 7-9, 2000, Joint Meeting of the 
Instrumentation Committee and the Instrumentation Technical Advisory 
Subcommittee 

This memorandum reports on the March 7-9, 2000, Joint Meeting of the Water 
Resources Division (WRD) Instrumentation Committee (ICOM) and 
Instrumentation Technical Advisory Subcommittee (ITAS).  The meeting was 
held in Biloxi Mississippi.  Eugene Hayes, Chief, Hydrologic 
Instrumentation Facility, hosted the meeting.  The primary purpose of the 
meeting was to: 

§        Review project needs statements, new project proposals, and 
progress reports for priority instrumentation projects; 
§        Review action items based on milestones in the ICOM 5-Year 
Instrumentation Plan;   
§        Receive briefings on key instrumentation activities within WRD to 
include activities of the Hydro-21 Work Group, Hydrologic Instrumentation 
Facility, and the Office of Surface Water Hydraulics Lab, and Federal 
Interagency Sediment Project; 
§        Plan the next cycle of inquiries to identify field instrument 
needs; 
§        Review the Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) Pilot 
Report; 
§        Develop plans to prepare for the approval and implementation of 
the QA/QC Program; 
§        Analyze options for coordinating with the Computer Processing 
Advisory Committee for developing requirements for field computers and 
hardening gaging stations; and 
§        Review cooperative efforts with the Water Survey of Canada.

The next joint meeting of the ICOM will be held in New England August 
29-31, 2000. The November Meeting of the ICOM will be held in Florida, 
November 29-30, 2000.
