                                  MEMORANDUM September 8, 2000

To: Senior Staff, Branch Chiefs and District Chiefs

From: Catherine L. Hill /signed/
Associate Chief Hydrologist for Program Operations

Subject: Information on Water Resources Division "cross-pollination" efforts

RESPONSE REQUESTED BY SEPTEMBER 28, 2000

There are a number of Water Resources Division (WRD) personnel who serve
in liaison positions with other Federal agencies or other U.S. Geological
Survey (USGS) divisions. These WRD employees are valuable points of
contact with the agencies they serve. Similarly, there are several
non-WRD employees in our offices who also are valuable assets to
interagency communication. At the last WRD Senior Staff meeting, it was
decided that updated information was needed regarding special assignments
of personnel in positions that lend to enhanced communication and program
development between WRD and State agencies, other Federal agencies, and
other USGS divisions. Once compiled, it is intended that this information
will be distributed bureau wide in order to make maximum use of these
opportunities and to serve as the basis for exploring additional
opportunities.

For each WRD employee who is temporarily (at least 1 year) or permanently
assigned to work at least in part as liaison with a State, other Federal
agency, or other USGS organizational unit, or for non-WRD personnel who
are temporarily (at least 1 year) or permanently assigned to work at least
in part as liaison with WRD, please provide the following information:

(1) Name and address of State agency, other Federal agency, or USGS
office to which the individual is assigned,

(2) Name, phone number, and e-mail address of individual,

(3) Nature of assignment (briefly describe the individual's role with
regard to USGS mission; for example "serves as liaison to enhance the
development and execution of technical-support activities")

(4) Start/End dates of the assignment (if known),

(5) Approximate percentage of fiscal year 2000 cost to: (a) WRD, and (b)
other entity.

Please respond by return e-mail by September 28, 2000; negative responses
are requested.

Thanks for your assistance in this endeavor.
