Subject:  MEETINGS-Minutes of August 29-31, 2000 Joint Meeting of the 
          Instrumentation Committee and the Instrumentation Technical 
          Advisory Subcommittee 

This memorandum reports on the August 29-31, 2000, Joint Meeting of the 
Water Resources Division (WRD) Instrumentation Committee (ICOM) and 
Instrumentation Technical Advisory Subcommittee (ITAS). The meeting was 
held at the Geologic Division's Coastal and Marine Geology Woods Hole 
Field Center (WHFC) at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Woods 
Hole, Massachusetts.  Debbie Hutchinson, Chief Scientist at the WHFC 
hosted the meeting and Wayne Sonntag, Massachusetts District Chief, 
arranged the logistics. The primary purpose of the meeting was to: 
Review project needs statements, new project proposals, and progress 
reports for priority instrumentation projects; 
Establish project priorities for Fiscal Year 2000 and provide funding for 
as many projects as the ICOM Budget  would permit; 
Meet with staff of the Woods Hole Field Center and BRD's S.O. Conte 
Anadromous Fish Research Center; 
Review and finalize plans for the FY2001 Biennial Survey of Hydrologic 
Field Instrumentation and Equipment Projects and Needs; 
Review status of the National Instrumentation Testing and Calibration 
Program; 
Review cooperative efforts with the Water Survey of Canada; 
Hear briefings on new sediment and geophysical technologies; 
Discuss ICOM representative changes; and 
Discuss alternative strategies for instrumentation development.

The next meeting of the ICOM will be held at the Sub-District Office in 
Altamonte Springs, Florida, November 29-30, 2000.
