From: Catherine L. Hill
Assosciate Chief Hydrologist for Program Operations
Subject: Cooperations with the Water Survey of Canada
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the Water Survey of Canada (WSC)
have been working together for many years on issues and projects related
to surface water hydrology, gaging station operations, sediment data
collection, and hydrologic field instrumentation. The informal
cooperative efforts have led to an exchange of information on plans,
computer applications, safety, and instrument testing. On March 28, 2000,
a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) was signed by Catherine Hill and Tom
Yorke, USGS, and Barry Greer and Bob Hale, Environment Canada, formalizing
the cooperative efforts between the two organizations.
Cooperative efforts and the exchange of technical and program information
are carried out as a result of WSC participation on various USGS
committees including the Instrumentation Committee, Safety Committee,
Acoustics Work Group, and Sediment Technical Committee.
On an 18-month cycle, senior management and technical representatives of
the two organizations meet to discuss organization matters, program
issues, and cooperative efforts, and to exchange technical information.
Cooperative efforts between the two organizations are documented in signed
annexes to the MOC. The minutes of the March meeting and presentations
made at the meeting can be viewed from the USGS--WSC Cooperative Program
website at:
