Online Automated Recruitment System Date: Wed, 01 Dec 1999 15:53:14 -0500 To: "USGS Employees"From: Eleanor Fisher Subject: Online Automated Recruitment System Date: December 1, 1999 To: All U.S. Geological Survey Employees From: Robert Hosenfeld, Personnel Officer Subject: Online Automated Recruitment System Starting in January 2000, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) will begin the implementation of its new Online Automated Recruitment System (OARS), a cornerstone of Survey City. OARS is a web-based recruitment and merit staffing system that takes advantage of the latest in technology and will be the standard for filling USGS vacant positions. OARS will place at your disposal the latest tools to complete an online web-based application, be notified of vacancies as they come open, and compete for these vacancies with a few simple key strokes or clicks of your mouse. No more searching for vacancies, completing ever changing KSA narratives, and wondering about the status of your application in the recruitment process. To provide you with basic information about OARS and our other web-based Survey City initiatives, briefings will be conducted in Reston, Norcross, Denver, and Menlo Park during January 2000. Briefings outside these locations will be arranged throughout early calendar year 2000. Beginning May 2000, all vacant positions will be filled utilizing OARS' paperless technology. This means that employees who wish to apply for USGS vacancies will need to enter their resume into OARS in order to be considered. Therefore, it is extremely important that you plan to attend one of these information sessions to understand how OARS will make it easy for you to apply for vacant positions using OARS' technology. In December, the headquarters and regional Human Resource Offices will notify you of the specific times and locations of the upcoming briefings. If you have a specific question about OARS and the upcoming implementation, please don't hesitate to contact the HRO ask_hro@usgs.gov.
