MEMORANDUM
To: All U.S. Geological Survey Employees
From: Robert Hosenfeld (signed)
Personnel Officer
Subject: Employee Exit Interview Survey
The Office of Personnel is pleased to announce the implementation of a new
component of Survey City -- the online USGS Employee Exit Interview
Survey. This survey will give employees who leave the U.S. Geological Survey
(USGS) an opportunity to provide their views on a wide range of topics,
including supervisory practices, working conditions, development
opportunities, and opportunities for advancement. These views will
provide valuable information about why employees leave the USGS and the
changes we should undertake to improve the USGS work experience.
Effective immediately, supervisors should inform all departing employees
of the availability of the survey and how to access it. At the present
time, the survey is located on a secure website, and employees will need
to contact their servicing personnel office to obtain the URL for the
website, their user ID, and the password that will enable them to complete
the survey. Once they have completed the survey, employees will also have
an opportunity to have further discussion with a human resources
specialist, Equal Employment Opportunity counselor, employee assistance
representative, or a senior manager.
Confidentiality is an important issue, and employees who complete the
survey can be assured that providing their name is entirely voluntary. In
addition, the software program used to administer the survey has an
encryption capability that will only reveal the identity of survey
respondents if they provide their name. Employees should also note that
their responses would in no way become part of their personnel records.
The exit interview survey is an exciting new tool that will give departing
employees an opportunity to provide valuable information that will help
the USGS plan for the future and make changes that will benefit both
employees and the organization. I urge supervisors to encourage all
departing employees to take the few minutes required to complete the exit
survey.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
