CHANGE IN GEOREF DATABASE PROVIDER

The USGS Library has selected Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) for Web
access to the GeoRef database over the next 12 months. Service with the
new vendor began on April 10, 2000, and links to the previous vendor are
no longer active. CSA provides access to the full GeoRef database as
produced by the American Geological Institute but uses a different search
interface and improved methods for retrieving citations.

To connect to GeoRef, click on the link from the list of databases on the
library's internal home page at www.usgs.gov:8888/library/index.html.
The username and password for the USGS account are embedded in the link
and authenticated by IP address. If you are located in a USGS office at a
university or research organization and have trouble connecting to GeoRef,
please e-mail Carol Bursik at cbursik@usgs.gov and give her the IP address
of your desktop computer. She will arrange to have the vendor include your
address in our customer profile.

The Cambridge version of GeoRef is compatible with major bibliographic
software programs, such as EndNote, ProCite, and Reference Manager. For
assistance with downloading search results into one of these packages,
visit their Web site at www.csa.com/helpV5/bib.html.

We hope that you will be pleased with this change. You may send or
comments or suggestions to the library at library@usgs.gov or to Nancy
Blair at nblair@usgs.gov .
