Supervisors, Managers, and Team Leaders: Please ensure that employees
without access to e-mail receive a copy of this message.

To: All U.S. Geological Survey Employees

Subject: Employee Well-Being - Nonmonetary Award Recognition

On November 30, 1999, an e-mail was sent to all employees regarding the
awards program. As a result of this e-mail, questions on nonmonetary
awards were received. This e-mail addresses those concerns.

There continues to be a department-mandated moratorium on the nonmonetary
awards of significant value, which is recognition exceeding $25. Nominal
value is recognition up to $25.

Nonmonetary recognition is granted to employees to recognize contributions
to the department, the bureau, an office, or a team. This would include
exceptional accomplishment of regularly assigned duties or specific
contributions to the U.S. Geological Survey's mission. Items for
nonmonetary award recognition should be purchased through normal
procurement channels, including the use of a government bankcard. All
recognition items must contain the departmental or bureau logo or be
engraved with the team or organization name. This reference can be found
at http://www.usgs.gov:8888/ops/hro/perf/awards/delegate.html.

This is a change that will be reflected in the next updating of the Awards
and Recognition Program which is found in its entirety at
