Early-Out Retirement Authorization Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 13:25:12 -0400 To: "USGS Employees" From: "Cindy S. Wylie" Subject: Early-Out Retirement Authorization In Reply Refer To: Mail Stop 601 MEMORANDUM Supervisors, Managers, and Team Leaders: Please ensure that employees without access to e-mail receive a copy of this message. To: All U. S. Geological Survey Employees From: Joyce D. Pieritz Acting Personnel Officer Subject: Early-Out Retirement Authorization This memorandum is to update employees on the early-out retirement window. Our current early-out authority expires on September 30, 1999. Those employees who wish to take advantage of the opportunity must retire by this date. Because the current law for early-out retirement expires on September 30, 1999, Congress will have to pass new legislation for additional windows. The Department of the Interior (DOI) is unable to apply for another early-out at this time, since it is unknown what requirements will have to be met. New legislation may have more stringent rules than the previous authorization, and DOI may not be able to qualify. As there is no guarantee for future early-outs, employees interested in this option should take advantage of the present window which expires on September 30, 1999. Questions regarding early-out retirement should be directed to your servicing personnel office.
