Stiltner Chief, Distributed Information System Program Office SUBJECT: DIS Infrastructure Direction Memo #9, Summary of WRD Computer Infrastructure The Water Resources Division's (WRD) computer environment is evolving into a Sun Unix and Windows NT environment. Desktop computer equipment will consist of Windows NT workstations, Windows terminals, X Windows terminals, and notebook computers. o PCs should run the Windows NT Workstation 4.0 operating system and should rely on a standard Windows NT server for network applications and printer serving. o Windows NT workstations and notebook computers will access the Unix servers via Reflection X. Other PC X server software is in use but not supported. o Windows terminals and X terminals will access Unix and NT servers through a Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, running Citrix MetaFrame and UNIX Integration Services. o New notebooks should be ordered with NT installed where possible. The hardware selected for desktop use will be determined by the needs of the users, the capability and workload of the site administrator(s), and cost assessments. Data Generals will not be supported beyond September 30, 2001.
