Groat Director Subject: Mark T. Anderson I am pleased to announce that Mark T. Anderson, Chief of the Hydrologic Investigations and Research Section of the Arizona District, WRD, has accepted a one-year detail to the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). OSTP is part of the Executive Office of the President (EOP). Mark will provide staff support to the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), which is a cabinet-level advisory group to the President. OSTP plays an important role in setting priorities for the Nation's science and technology agenda and works to ensure coordination of programs across the Federal agencies. More detail on OSTP and the NSTC is available at url: http://www.whitehouse.gov/OSTP. Mark, in general, will represent the USGS in the EOP but is responsible for the following issues: Global climate change (water cycle), Sea-level rise, Methane hydrates, Environmental monitoring, Index sites, Oceans, Antarctic and Arctic, Forests, Water resources, Wetlands, Water quality, and some aspects of hypoxia and natural hazards. To keep Mark informed, we suggest you send him copies of emails and new reports on the latest significant activities, results of programs, and developing programs within the USGS.
