1999 Federal Savings Bond Campaign Date: Tue, 13 Jul 1999 09:56:52 -0400 To: "USGS Employees" From: "Director's Office" Subject: 1999 Federal Savings Bond Campaign MEMORANDUM July 12, 1999 To: All U.S. Geological Survey Employees From: Charles G. Groat Director Subject: 1999 Federal Savings Bond Campaign Supervisors, Managers, and Team Leaders: Please ensure that employees without access to e-mail receive a copy of this message. By now you should have received the memorandum from the Assistant Secretary for Policy, Management and Budget, John Berry, announcing the 1999 Federal Savings Bond Campaign. The campaign begins on July 19, 1999, and will end on August 19, 1999. The theme for this year's campaign is "Invest Today...Enjoy Tomorrow." Saving money should be a lifetime habit, which is never too early to learn and never too late to begin. With today's U.S. Savings Bonds, the saving habit is easy to begin. There are no fees, you never pay State or local income tax on the interest earned, and your allotment can be as low as $3.75 a pay period. For the 1999 campaign, the U.S. Geological Survey is striving for a 5 percent increase in new enrollments and a 10 percent increase in current Savings Bonds allotments. Literature for the campaign will be delivered to you by our internal mail system. Canvassers from your division will be in touch with you to make sure you have received your literature, to answer questions, to facilitate your enrollment in the Savings Bonds program, or to assist you in increasing your current allotment. For more information about Savings Bonds, visit the website at http://www.savingsbonds.gov. Employees can sign up for Savings Bonds at any time; however, please let your canvasser know if you decide to enroll or to increase your allotment during the campaign to help us determine our goal. "Invest Today...Enjoy Tomorrow" is more than a slogan. It is an investment opportunity for your future and the future of our Nation. I encourage all employees to weigh the benefits of this worthy program and consider joining "THE PLAN."
