On July 22, 1999, we disseminated the press release announcing that GSA was shutting down its supply points and supply distribution centers. This means that the Customer Supply Center (CSC) located at the GSA Franconia complex in Springfield, Virginia will close, presumably during the first wave of closings expected to begin around mid-October 1999. However, the CSC closure will not affect the operations of the Personal Property Center (PPC) located at the same complex. The PPC will continue to receive excess property and be a principal source of available surplus property for reutilization and sales. Further, the PPC will continue to stock new and refurnished furniture and office decor items such as wall art and artificial plants. We will provide the necessary support to offices within the Washington commuting area to transport furnishings or other property acquired from the Franconia PPC. Please call Francisco Lourido at (703) 648-7276 to make these arrangements. As National Center customers obtain their supplies from the Reston Supply Service Center (RSSC), the closing of the CSC will not affect them. However, offices outside the National Center that rely on the Franconia CSC for supplies will need to shop on-line via GSA Advantage. These offices within the Washington metropolitan area may also expand their use of the RSSC as an alternative source of supply. For more details regarding the RSSC, please call Francisco Lourido at (703) 648-7276 or access the RSSC on-line at http://rssc.usgs.gov/ .
