Subject:  Acting USGS Safety Manager

Beginning immediately, Steve Eck will serve as the Acting USGS Safety
Manager.   Steve has agreed to act in this capacity until we fill the
vacant position resulting from Gary Kramer's retirement. We anticipate
completing the recruitment and selection process by mid August.  Steve may
