Hill /signed/ Associate Chief Hydrologist for Program Operations Subject: Visual Identity at U.S. Geological Survey Gaging Stations The Chief Hydrologist has requested our assistance for increasing the visual identity level at U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) gaging stations. If we take advantage of stations located in the public view, we have a great opportunity to present information such as the USGS mission for hydrologic data collection; an overview of the district and/or basin network; how the station fits into the network; and what benefits the public derives from our efforts. Ideas collected from the field and suggested guidelines are shared in the attached "Suggested Style Guide to Improve Visual Identity at USGS Gaging Stations." This guide is to spark your creativity and to help simplify the process of designing specific applications for those sites you feel will increase the levels of public awareness. Upon completion of your new signage and activities, we encourage you to assist us to help other district offices by submitting photographs, graphic image files, vendor information, materials and costs for future updates of the style guide and the associated web-based graphics visual identity image library.
