Hirsch, Chief Hydrologist, USGS" (by way of Jan Arneson) Subject: Strategic Directions for the Water Resources Division Cc: " , WRD Archive File, Reston, VA" In Reply Refer To: Mail Stop 440 April 7, 1998 MEMORANDUM To: All Water Resources Division Employees From: Robert M. Hirsch (signed) Chief Hydrologist Subject: Strategic Directions for the Water Resources Division As I am sure many of you have heard, the Senior Staff of the Water Resources Division (WRD) has been spending some of its time in development of strategic directions for the WRD. Those deliberations have resulted in a draft document entitled "Strategic Directions for the Water Resources Division." This document articulates a shared vision for the future direction of the water resources activity of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This document was prepared by a leadership team within the WRD of the USGS. The leadership team intends to modify and improve the document based upon comments we receive during two distinct review cycles. The first cycle, which is starting now, will take place primarily within the USGS and focus on the WRD. The second cycle will take place in the future, after the document is modified based upon review comments received from within the USGS. I have asked the heads of the organizational units within WRD, that is, District offices and equivalent, to involve their staffs in preparing review comments to the subject document. For your information, the subject document is available on the WRD internal pages at url /lookup/get?strategic *************************************************************** * Robert M.
