Yorke Chief, Office of Surface Water Subject: Federal CBR Surface Water, Miscellaneous Water Quality, Sediment and Precipitation Networks - Fiscal Year 1998 Allocation Funds to be allocated to Districts in Fiscal Year 1998 for support of surface water, miscellaneous water quality, sediment, and precipitation stations are shown in the attached table. The funding for 1998 includes $4,511,288 for surface water stations, $278,885 for miscellaneous water quality stations, $54,408 for sediment stations, and $17,840 for precipitation stations. The funding for 1998 reflects a planned decrease of $250,000 and some miscellaneous changes in the program. The major change in the program resulted from a decrease in the Data Collection and Analysis appropriation in 1997. The Regional Program Officers, Regional Surface Water Specialists and the Office of Surface Water worked together with the Districts to minimize the impact of the funding decrease on both National and District programs. The funding shown in the attached table represents all the funds that will be available for support of individual surface water, miscellaneous water quality, sediment, and precipitation stations. Funding for surface water stations changed the most; 24 District had funding decreases and 5 Districts had slight increases. The funding for surface water stations includes the surface water part of Benchmark Program and $51,165 provided by the NASQAN Program for support of 9 stations in 7 Districts. Funding for miscellaneous water quality stations was decreased in 5 of the 12 Districts that receive funding. There were not changes in the funding for sediment and precipitation stations. Many Districts will be able to make their CBR request through AIS by duplicating the 1997 allocation and submitting the request. Districts with a funding change should be aware of which stations will not be supported by CBR based on previous discussions with this office or your respective Region Program Officer. If there are questions about the amount of funds shown in the attached table or how they should be distributed to individual stations, please call me (703-648-5305) or send email (thyorke). Table 1.
