Hill /signed/ Assistant Chief Hydrologist for Operations Subject: Collection of Basic Records (CBR) Allocation for Fiscal Year 1998 RESPONSE REQUESTED BY NOVEMBER 10, 1997 The allocation for the Collection of Basic Records (CBR) program will be expedited in fiscal year 1998. You have already received the allocation amounts for the NASQAN Program from the Office of Water Quality in an email dated October 3, 1997. The Office of Ground Water sent an email to all districts on October 15, 1997, indicating the funds that would be available to each district for the Federal ground-water network. The Office of Surface Water has been working with the Regional Program Officers since last December to identify changes to the surface water, miscellaneous water quality, sediment and precipitation networks, An email with the funding available to each district for these networks will be sent to you today. The allocation amounts identified in the emails from the three Discipline Offices represent all the funds available for the support of individual stations and startup costs for the ground-water network. The only CBR funds not identified in the emails are the funds for NASQAN coordination and Hydrologic Benchmark Projects. These will be handled separately by the Office of Water Quality and should not be included in the district requests. The next step in the allocation process is for each district to assign the gross funds identified by the Discipline Offices to individual stations in the AIS request tables. We ask you to enter CBR requests in AIS and transfer them to Headquarters no later than November 10, 1997. After the cutoff date, the AIS CBR load process will be turned off at Headquarters. A report (CBR Request Detailed) will be retrieved for Discipline Offices to review. Any districts that have not responded by the cutoff date will not be included in the initial allocation, which will be made on November 14, 1997. Please send email notification of the CBR transfer to Cassie Pufnock (cpufnock). Cassie will ensure that the request is reviewed by the appropriate Discipline Offices and make the allocation by November 14, 1997. If you have general questions about your AIS request, please direct them to Cassie. Questions about NASQAN should be directed to Janice Ward (jward); questions about the ground-water network should be directed to Bill Alley (walley); and questions about the surface water, miscellaneous water quality, sediment or precipitation networks should be directed to Tom Yorke (thyorke).
