Subject: Transition from the Automated Vacancy Announcement Distribution
         System to the Office of Personnel Management's USAJOBS

The Department of the Interior's (DOI) Automated Vacancy Announcement
Distribution System (AVADS), currently used by each Bureau of the DOI, will
no longer be available after September 30, 1998, for DOI vacancy
announcements.  DOI is shifting all vacancy announcement processing to
USAJOBS.

You may search for current vacancies that are open governmentwide or open
to all sources through USAJOBS located at  http://www.usajobs.opm.gov.
Vacancies with recruiting areas limited to DOI employees only, will be
found at http://www.usajobs.opm.gov/a9in.htm.    During the transition
period from AVADS to the On-Line Job Entry Program, you will need to
continue searching for vacancies through AVADS at http://www.doi.gov/avads
as well as those web sites previously mentioned.  After September 30, 1998,
each USGS Servicing Personnel Office (SPO) will enter vacancies through
direct entry into the Office of Personnel Management's On-Line Job Entry
Program for dissemination through USAJOBS.

All three of the aforementioned web sites are accessible through the USGS
Program Support, Human Resources intranet web site under the ‘Employment'
category at http://www.usgs.gov:8888/ops.
