Meeks Regional Hydrologist, Southeastern Region Subject: Selection of Georgia District Chief We are pleased to announce the selection of Edward H. Martin as the District Chief of Georgia. Ed currently is the District Chief in Louisiana, a position he has held since 1993. Ed began his USGS career in 1976 in data collection and analysis in Louisiana. In 1979 he was selected as chief of the Jonesboro, Louisiana field office. Ed transferred to the Orlando, Florida Subdistrict in 1983 where he conducted investigations in urban water quality and was involved in some of the leading work in treatment of urban stormwater runoff. In 1988, he returned to Louisiana as Assistant District Chief for Hydrologic Investigations. He participated in the USGS Graduate School training program in 1991 where he earned his Masters in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University. Under Ed's leadership as District Chief, the Louisiana District realized significant advances in programs and products. Among these are a highly acclaimed real-time flood-alert network and a flood-tracking chart which has become a model for other District flood-hazard programs. Ed's technical and managerial background along with his experience in program development will serve the Georgia District well. Please join us in welcoming Ed to his new position.
