MEMORANDUM
To: All USGS Employees From: Catherine L. Hill, Assistant Chief Hydrologist for Operations Robert Hosenfeld, Personnel Officer Fiscal Year 1999 Co-Chairs, Human Resources Initiatives Program Subject: Call for Fiscal Year 1999 Human Resources Initiatives Proposals In accordance with the Associate Director of Operations memorandum of June 22, 1998, explaining the Human Resources Initiatives (HRI) Program for fiscal year 1999, we are providing all employees with the Proposal Application and criteria that are needed for developing and submitting project proposals under next year's program. They can be found at the following website: http://www.usgs.gov:8888/ops/hro/hri/hrimemo.html You may submit proposals for activities that fall in one of three HRI categories: (1) recruitment and retention; (2) lifelong learning; and (3) volunteerism. Each of these categories is distinct and you will need to refer to the specific criteria in order to ensure that you develop a complete proposal. Please note that HRI funding for salaries is available only under the U. S. Geological Survey's Science Internships for Workforce Diversity program, formerly known as the Minority Participation in the Earth Sciences program, and the Department's Diversity Intern program. In every other instance, HRI funding may not be used for salaries or overhead. Proposals must be received in the Human Resources Office, Mail Stop 601, Reston, Virginia, no later than September 15, 1998. To be considered, proposals must have appropriate management endorsement, which is explained on the application form. Each category's proposals will be evaluated by a separate impartial panel, and the results will be announced when HRI funding becomes available. If you have questions about the proposal process, you may call Susan Wells in the Human Resources Office at (703) 648-7452. Attachments: http://www.usgs.gov:8888/ops/hro/hri/hrimemo.html
