Announcement of New Acting Assistant Chief, Office of Water Quality To: "E - All WRD Employees" from: "Janice R Ward, Acting Chief, OWQ, Reston, VA" Subject: Announcement of New Acting Assistant Chief, Office of Water Quality Date: Thu, 30 Apr 1998 12:43:42 -0400 Sender: "Nana L Frye, Secretary (OA), Reston, VA" I am pleased to announce the selection of Stephen Sorenson as Acting Assistant Chief of the Office of Water Quality (OWQ) effective April 26th. Steve's extensive experience with water quality and aquatic ecology within the Water Resources Division will be a great addition to the OWQ. Steve started with the U.S. Geological Survey in 1974 in the Sacramento Subdistrict in California as a hydrologic-field assistant. In 1975, Steve moved to Menlo Park and worked with water-quality, ground-water, and aquatic-biology programs. In 1978, Steve moved back to Sacramento and continued to work as project chief on a variety of water-quality projects, including National Stream Quality Accounting Network, Department of the Interior Irrigation Drainage studies, soil-water and plant-physiology studies in conjunction with the ground-water studies in Owens Valley, and detection of Giardia cysts in natural waters. He also served one year as water-quality specialist for the California District. In 1992, Steve transferred to Reston to be the Regional Biologist for the National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program in the Northeastern Region where he was instrumental in implementing aquatic-ecology studies within the NAWQA program. During his stay in the Northeastern Region, Steve also served as acting Assistant Regional Hydrologist for NAWQA, and acting District Chief in Illinois. Please join me in welcoming Steve to the OWQ.
