The new integrated bank cards (smart cards) from Nationsbank will include a
system called EAGLS (Electronic Account Government Ledger System). It will
offer a tool to streamline administrative processes, cardholder setup and
program maintenance.  This system will be mandatory for use in the USGS by
the end of December, 1998.

This browser-based software must be accessed via the internet.  At least 
one Administrative Person within each office will have to have access to 
Netscape or MS Explorer at at least a 3.0 or higher version.  The Mosaic
browser does not meet this requirement.

If your office will not have access to a level 3.0 browser by the end of
December, we need to hear from you now!  Responses should be sent to Teresa
Rose, WRD's representative on the Smart Card implementation team, (email
htrose) with a copy to your regional computer specialist  by Thursday, July
30, 1998.
