December 26 Holiday Date: Fri, 05 Dec 1997 15:02:58 -0500 To: "USGS Employees" From: "Jeanne M. Placanica" Subject: December 26 Holiday The President has issued an Executive Order excusing all Federal employees from duty on Friday, December 26, 1997. Because this day off will be considered a holiday for pay and leave purposes, no employee will be charged leave for that day. If you have scheduled "use or lose" annual leave for December 26, you must reschedule and use the leave before the end of the leave year (January 3, 1998) or it will be forfeited with no opportunity for restoration. If you are working under an alternative work schedule (AWS) or a compressed work schedule and your AWS/compressed day off falls on December 26, your day off will be Wednesday, December 24. With supervisory approval, employees on AWS may schedule the AWS day off on another day during the same pay period. Employees working under a compressed work schedule may not elect to move the day off from Wednesday. Holidays are recorded as 8 hours of pay for employees who are working a maxiflex schedule (a flexible schedule under which an employee may work more than 8 hours a day). Because there will be three holidays occurring in the same pay period (December 25 and 26 and January 1), there will be three 8 hour days during that pay period. Therefore, employees working a maxiflex schedule may need to adjust the number of hours worked or the amount of leave, compensatory time or credit hours used on other days in order to account for a total of 80 hours by the end of the pay period. Specific instructions concerning time and attendance recording will be issued to timekeepers. If you have any questions, please contact your servicing personnel office.
